Age of Fiction

Singer/Songwriter/Composer Holly Csiga (AKA Holly Shaffer, Holly Wyrd) and husband Drummer Bryan Csiga make up the heavy, often prog, rock duo Age of Fiction.   Moving with one mind, they startle audiences for their energy and precise transitions, as well as their solid songwriting skill. Heavy sometimes psychedelic sounds from the 70's mixed with an infusion of punk and post punk tending a bit gothic emanate from Holly's soulful songwriting.  Brandishing hard hitting tricky jazz beats, heavy incorporated piano/synthesizer sounds as well as Holly's large, dynamic vocals, the result is a meaty, syncopated, melodic rock experience containing both powers of darkness and light.

Celebrating over 30 years of togetherness, both musicians have performed and jammed all over Seattle since arriving in 2000.  They have appeared together in creative performances ranging from the Time-Travel Rock Musical, "Persephone" composed by Holly to live shows performed as "Csiga" and independently, Holly's early project "Holly Wyrd", a live, solo, space-rock act.   The couple/duo met growing up in the wilds of Alaska, where Holly was writing philosophical, heart-filled songs from the young age of 2.  Bryan was learning hand drumming and then branched out into a full set and they began putting it together in Seattle.   After having 2 daughters and trying to keep work flowing in Seattle during the Great Age of Fiction, they decided to put this invention of themselves forward.    In the year 2021 they spun life's myriad challenges into a web of life when they teamed up with underground, indy, experimental, rock musician and producer/collector Raymond Bollen on his own indy label "Hairy Nipple Productions" for the four albums recorded over Mayday Weekend now known as "The Mayday Sessions". They include: "True Fiction" (June 21), "Young, Hungry And Taking It" (YHATI) (August 21), "Werewolf" (October 21) and finally the epic ode to nature "It Takes An Age."(December 2021). Performing from their garage which has been made into their main practice and studio space in rural Washington, Holly works out thoughts into song and Bryan hears her vision to create precisely the right mood for every movement written.   Each album represents a facet of AOF's work over the past ten years together and each features a surprising array of dynamic songs that carry the signature Age of Fiction sound.  This collection has recently reached over 28K listeners on Pandora Radio with listenership distributed widely across the US, and the single "Counting Trees" recently had a one day stream of over 1,000.  The music is new, yet it flows from a place of old, and people really latch on to the songs.  The future is wide open for this band.  (Updated 2023)
